Beach Lane – Continuous Footpath Treatment

Pedestrian prioritisation is desirable in town centres and shopping precincts. It is also desirable in residential areas to encourage pedestrian activity and reduce real and perceived motor vehicle dominance.

Beach Lane is on a walking desire line for pedestrians walking from Spit Junction and heading south towards Mosman Junction. There are pedestrian crossing facilities at all other intersections along this route. As such, Council is considering a Continuous Footpath Treatment in Beach Lane at Military Road.

The Local Traffic Committee at its meeting on 4 May, 2021 considered a report on this matter and resolved that:

  1. Continuous Footpath Treatment in Beach Lane as per the design prepared by Woollacotts Consulting Engineers (drawing number C2-21-23 dated April 2021) be approved.
  2. The proposal be advertised for community comment.
  3. If there are no significant objections the works be reported to Council for their endorsement in future budget preparations.
  4. If there are significant objections the design be reported back to the Traffic Committee.

Accordingly, Council is seeking Community feedback on the proposed Continuous Footpath Treatment in Beach Lane at Military Road (see attached plan).
