Council has received verbal and written complaints from residents regarding traffic matters on Hamlet Lane. These submission relate primarily to the following road safety issues:

  • The laneway has no footpath and is unsafe for the high volume of pedestrians that it caters to
  • The laneway experiences too much traffic attempting to bypass Military Road
  • The laneway is too narrow to effectively facilitate two-way traffic movements, resulting in conflicts and altercations between drivers

Council staff have commenced an investigation into these concerns.

The Local Traffic Committee at its meeting of 4 May 2021 considered a report on Hamlet Lane Traffic Management and resolved that community consultation be carried out on the following options:

1. A "One-Way" restriction along Hamlet Lane from Shadforth Street to Raglan Street (opposite travel direction to Carney Lane).

2. Do nothing.

Further, a section for community comments be allowed in the survey.

The report and meeting minutes are available on Council's website.

Accordingly, Council is seeking feedback/comments on the options 1 and 2 above.
