Closes 27 February
The NSW Government is seeking community feedback on proposed changes to the state's strategic planning system that will shape how our region grows over the coming decades.
A discussion paper titled "A New Approach to Strategic Planning" has been released for public comment, proposing a simpler three-tiered strategic planning framework to guide land use planning across NSW.
The proposed framework aims to:
reduce duplication across the strategic planning system
align housing, jobs and infrastructure planning
support councils with clearer guidance and direction
make planning priorities and policies easier to navigate and implement.
The new framework introduces seven statewide priorities covering housing delivery, job creation, infrastructure coordination and environmental protection. These priorities will influence where new homes are built, how employment areas develop and how our natural environment is protected.
Council will be considering a report on the proposed changes at its March Council meeting.
The Sydney Plan
As part of these reforms, the draft Sydney Plan is the first regional strategic plan being developed under the new framework. It demonstrates how statewide priorities will be applied at a regional level to our area over the next 20 years.

Public consultation is open until 5pm Thursday 27 February, 2026.
