In the lead-up to International Day of People with Disability on 3 December, we’re asking what inclusion means to you.
Whether you are a person living with disability, a family member, carer or member of the community, let us know what it means to you.
Two selected entries will each receive a $250 voucher.
Use the forms under the tabs below to upload a video or image submission, or submit a written response.
You can also email us at communityservices@mosman.nsw.gov.au to submit a response.

Inclusion is Coucil celebrating the religious festivals of all Mosman citizens or at least having them mentioned in the Mayor's column.

Inclusion means being one of the kids at school
Inclusion means being in the same classroom as all the other kids, and at the same school as their siblings. There is nothing "special" about a child's needs that warrants them being segregated. Children with disabilities want to learn the same things, have friends and access all the same opportunities as other children. Inclusion means feeling valued for being different.

Inclusion is about looking everyone equally in the eye.
The worst feeling in the world is when people glance away from a passerby on the street, refusing to acknowledge their existence. Have you ever taken the time to talk to and understand someone with a disability? If you haven’t, or the idea of doing so feels uncomfortable to you, it’s important to ask yourself why. Involving others in the conversation is a key step to inclusion. Actively listening to their responses is equally as important, as inclusion is about treating everyone with an equal amount of respect and dignity. On the topic of dignity, it’s important to mention that inclusion is not about pity. People with disabilities are not glassware- they do not need to be ‘handled with care’. It’s also important to remember that a lot of the time, disability cannot be seen. Inclusion is about being understanding and empathetic. ‘Oh, but you don’t look disabled!’ is not an inclusive compliment as most seem to think! I can’t speak for all people who have a disability, and that’s why it’s important to hear their voices. People with disabilities have been voicing their perspective on inclusion for a long time now, most of us just haven’t been willing to listen.

Inclusion to me is everyone feeling like they belong in a community - people feel respected, loved and understood by others around them.
Inclusion is achieved when all individual needs are catered for, they feel like they have a voice in all kinds of decisions and that everyone feels safe and comfortable enough to speak their worries to others. :)
